Long ago...

... in the other world we lived in, I wrote a newsletter quarterly. Life got in the way; snailmail became so passe; brain became overburdened - or some other excuse, and I stopped after #47. Now that we have entered the science "fiction" world, it has become a "BLOG". Here is my first attempt at blogging....

So much fashion news passes my desk every week, that it all begins to look alike, but one from the Fashion Group Foundation gives a particularly good overview. A very clever writer (fashion diva), Marylou Luther uses Wall Street terminology and I've taken the liberty of adding a few of my own (not so clever) thoughts:

"So how do you dress for the global economic convulsions that seem to continue into 2009? Do you want to look standard and poor? Or fortunate 500? In a season designed before the scariest stock market dives, lay-offs, foreclosures and business failures"....she suggests and we agree:

Stock Pick.....the long and short of it. Every length from day to evening. You will have your pick of romantic floral chiffons; lots of short skirts (yes, they are still showing minis with leggings) and short shorts for those with great legs. Long casual dresses look very fresh. Think beach breezes blowing. Think tall and willowy - if you don't fit that description, think again before buying.

Liquidity....shiny sequins and waterfalls of crystal, the shine of liquid gold or silver, precious metals are still a rage in both fabrics, shoes, and jewelry. Something needs to shimmer. Why shouldn't it be you.

Geometry is the new fashion math. We think it looks best in black and white....stark, mod, and very now. Seen in dresses and spring coats for a fresh take.

Material things....look for rumpled, crumpled, wrinkled, and crinkled (clever girl, Marylou Luther). Fabrics are key in every design house. Silks, silk charmeuse, silk jacquards, lames, and brocades. We go from edgy to gorgeous all in the choice of fabric for each design.

Dress Up or Down.....dresses are so bountiful that it's hard to find anything else. Every kind of dress you could imagine and lots that you would never think of emerge for Spring. Causal, cute, sophisticated, tailored, cocktail, beach wear...there is no end to the amount of dresses on the market. We'll have lots for you in every price point.

Prints.....are personal, but not this Spring. They are everywhere! I usually think they are too recognizable and once worn are too identifiable, but not now. They are just plain gorgeous! I shouldn't use the word "plain" because they are anything but. Brilliant (said with a British accent) would be a far better description.

Now I'm going back to my winter doldrums and dream of Spring. Lucky for me it starts in January in our store....no matter what the weather. Why would beautiful clothing wait for sunshine - it will bring the shine inside to you. Shopping therapy is what the doctor calls for. (That is advice from the Vasarri doctor, ladies)
